Terms & Conditions

Note: these may be adjusted based on the specifics of a project. But generally, this is what you can expect:

Communication

  • Details of the client-Ariele relationship will be discussed via email or after a contract is signed; alternative methods can be negotiated.

  • Once a project is accepted, any needed changes to the project or timeline will be communicated via email to the client. If the client needs to change timelines, the turnaround times may also be adjusted.

  • Three months after the completion of the project, all files shared by the author will be deleted from my system.

  • All writers’ work will be kept confidential.

  • Contracts are sent and signed via email. Any changes to the contract will be written out in an email, and signed via email.

  • A sample contract might look like this:

    • Project: [insert project name]

      Terms: Ariele Sieling will provide a [type of] developmental edit for [client name and project name] which is [number of] words. She will provide [(this will be customized per client) feedback on worldbuilding, character, pacing, and plot, with the objective of looking for any areas which do not make sense and identifying holes in the narrative].

      [The client] will send the final project by [date]. Ariele agrees to have the work completed by [date] as long as the book is submitted on time. Should any conflicts arise, Ariele and [the client] agree to communicate via email to determine necessary adjustments to this agreement.

      Ariele's final product will be a document with comments inserted, as well as a write-up of her thoughts about the story.

      [Client] agrees to pay [amount] total for the project, with a deposit of 30% before work commences on the project and the rest upon receipt of the finished project.

      If Ariele is unable to complete the work once she has received the manuscript from the client, the deposit will be refunded. If the book ends up being more than 5% longer than the agreed word count, the price will be renegotiated.
      Ariele agrees to keep the details of this project confidential, unless otherwise instructed by the client.

Payment

  • All invoices will be sent via PayPal.

  • The client must pay 30% of the project before the project commences; I will not begin reading until the deposit is made. Client may also pay in full up front, if they so choose.

  • Each day a deposit is late will add a day onto the agreed turnaround time.

  • Final payment is expected upon the receipt of the project.

Timing

  • Scheduling for each project is determined by the client and myself. For projects booked more than 3 months in advance, a minimum placeholder deposit of $25 is required upon signing the contract, then the remainder of the 30% at the start of the project. The amount will be deducted from your final bill.

  • Turnaround times will generally be 7 - 14 days, or whatever deadline we agree upon. If a writer requests a faster turnaround time, there may be an additional fee.
